Dr. Katrina Spaunhurst is a board-certified dermatologist who specializes in medical and surgical dermatology, including the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails. She strives to make evidence-based treatment recommendations based on the latest medical literature and cares for all patients with genuine compassion and integrity. Dr. Spaunhurst passionately educates her patients with the goal of empowering them to make informed decisions regarding their health. Her formal education and training include:
- Pomona College (Claremont, CA) – BA, Neuroscience
- Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California (Los Angeles, CA) – Doctor of Medicine
- Huntington Memorial Hospital (Pasadena, CA) – Internal Medicine Internship
- Case Western Reserve University Hospitals (Cleveland, OH) – Dermatology Residency
- Stanford University (Redwood City, CA) – Clinical Research in Dermatology
While in medical school, Dr. Spaunhurst became a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (AΩA) and received dean’s list recognition. Also, during her dermatology residency, she served as VA Chief Resident.
Dr. Spaunhurst has contributed to numerous publications and presentations throughout her career, focusing on topics such as the facial microbiome, melanoma risk, basal cell carcinoma treatment, and the impact of UV exposure and hormonal therapy on skin cancer risk. Her research has been featured in esteemed journals, and she is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), as well as an active member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the Washington State Medical and Dermatology Association (WSMA/WSDA), and the Seattle Dermatologic Society (SDS).
Dr. Spaunhurst was also a Seattle Met Top Doctor in 2022 and a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in 2024.
Outside of work, Dr. Spaunhurst enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, trying new restaurants and recipes, and rooting for Seattle’s sports teams. She is a Mercer Island native and is actively involved in the local community!
