Microdermabrasion FAQ’s
Does microdermabrasion hurt?
Microdermabrasion is not painful in any way—in fact, many patients find the treatment as relaxing and rejuvenative as getting a facial. The skin may be slightly pink for a few hours, but the pink color typically resolves within an hour or less. Makeup may be applied immediately following the procedure.
Is there downtime?
There is no downtime following a microdermabrasion, however patients are susceptible to sunburn for seven days following the treatment, so using a sunblock with an SPF of 30 every day is recommended.
How long is the treatment?
Microdermabrasion treatments range from 30–45 minutes.
Microneedling and Advanced Microneedling
Collagen production naturally slows with age, resulting in the visible signs of aging. Microneedling and Advanced Microneedling are treatments that involve a microneedling device that travels over the surface of the skin, causing tiny (invisible to the naked eye) micro-injuries that stimulate collagen and skin cell renewal. Collagen production is one of the most important factors in achieving and maintaining younger-looking skin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker dermis with an overall skin cell renewal. This provides an improved appearance, and softer tone and texture. Microneedling is an extremely safe procedure and can be used on all skin types.
Microneedling is used to improve the appearance of many common skin care concerns, including the following:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven tone and texture
- Pigmentation
- Acne scarring
- Stretch marks
- Vertical lip lines and scars
For patients with moderate to severe skin care issues, Advanced Microneedling is a more aggressive procedure. Those with deeper wrinkles or scars, or who want accelerated and amplified results, may choose Advanced Microneedling instead of the original treatment.
While many patients experience a notable change in tone and texture after just a few weeks of treatment, clinical evidence has demonstrated that a series of 4 microneedling treatments resulted in a 400% increase in collagen after 4 months.
Microneedling FAQ’s
Where can it treat?
Microneedling can be used on the face and many other areas on the body, especially the neck and chest, hands and forearms.
Is there downtime?
There are no activity restrictions following a Microneedling or Advanced Microneedling treatment. Patients can expect pink skin for up to 48 hours, but 24 hours is typical for most patients. Some experience slight swelling for 48 hours. Aggressive microneedling may cause pinpoint bleeding which stops a few minutes after the procedure. Any resulting red specks will disappear in a few days or less.
Is Microneedling painful?
Providers will prescribe a numbing cream for patients to apply to the treatment area prior to the procedure. This ensures a comfortable treatment experience. Providers are also able to adjust treatment settings to patients’ comfort levels.
